Sports Issue

Do children need sports in their lives? What affect does it have on raising a child? Does the outcome of positive encouragement and success correlate with self-confidence in coming years. My two brothers and I all played sports from infants to our high school days. We each played sports such as soccer, basketball, and track. Although church ball was always big in our family we each had dreams of making the big dance. My brothers and I each have a sense of personal pride that connects to our self-confidence. This isn't bad pride, its the kind of pride each person needs to be successful. And I think the more self-confidence you have the more successful in life you can be.  Basically I want to research why and how sports can affect us so much, especially in our youth.

I guess I need help on how it connects to media?

  1. Hey, I figured out how I comment on your blog! So anyway, I really like the idea and I'm sure there will be some good research for you to use, I am a little confused though, don't we have to relate it to mass media? So maybe you can discuss the super star status in media as well, or something.

  2. I'd say you could take this issue from two sides. The first is the exercise standpoint, since the current generation doesn't naturally want to go out and run around because of all the entertainment that can be obtained without moving a muscle. Does it help us grow physically?

The second is does a sense of unity in a team help a person grow? I'd compare that to the movie "Forever Strong"

  3. This is a really promising subject. I think it would also be very easy to back up with research data. Anything relating to pride would be a little harder to quantify.

  4. I love how only boys have commented on this. I'm sure studies have been done about this topic (by male psychologists), so you'd have a ton of resources to look at. I like Hunter's idea of bringing in the media aspect with the athlete's standing in pop culture, especially how young kids can idolize these stars and want to be like them.

  5. I think you don't have to connect it further to the media, media itself deals with people and their zeitgeist so I think you're already on the right track. Really good idea though, and very accessible. Well done.

  6. I don't think you have to relate it to the media. As long as you get it approved by Sis. Steadman it will be fine. I think that sports are important for many reasons. One of the big reasons is that at an early age it helps develop cordination.
